KATHMANDU, Aug 16: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has decided to organize the A Division Football League in Kathmandu from November 30.

ANFA’s executive committee meeting held under the chairmanship of its president Narendra Shrestha on Wednesday announced the date of the most awaited first tier football league that had been stalled for three years.

The league will feature a total of 12 A division clubs including three departmental teams – Tribhuvan Army Club, Nepal Police Club, and Armed Police Force (APF).

Chief executive officer of ANFA Indra Man Tuladhar said that the governing body of Nepali football was planning to hold the league in Dasharath stadium, APF’s Halchok stadium and ANFA Complex’s ground at Satdobato.

However, the league would be hosted in only two venues – Halchok and ANFA Complex if the earthquake-damaged Dasharath stadium were not ready by the league date.  The meeting held at ANFA house also decided to pay compensation to Three Star Club which was deprived of competing in the AFC Asian Cup due to ANFA’s negligence.

Tuladhar said that Three Star will be paid Rs 15 million in compensation.
The meeting also decided to form a three-member committee under ANFA’s vice-president Mani Kunwar to further study the report submitted by Bir Bahadur Khadka-led committee that had declared general secretary Dhirendra Pradhan and employees Gokul Thapa and Basanta Rijal as those responsible for the Three Star fiasco.

The committee under Kunwar has been given a deadline of 10 days to submit a report to ANFA, which would then take final decision regarding taking action against the guilty.

The committee is told to hold talks with Three Star over payment of the compensation money, Tuladhar said.

“The committee will hold talks with Three Star about the modality and timeframe to release the payment,” Tuladhar said.

The meeting also assigned the committee to manage resources to pay the compensation money and give details about it at the next executive committee meeting. The payment modality will then be endorsed by the Extraordinary Congress of ANFA.

The meeting also decided to seek approval from Asian Football Confederation to hold ANFA election on January 7 and Extraordinary Congress on October 9.
