Jhapa flooded after heavy rainfall

BHADRAPUR, July 24: As many as 125 households in Bhadrapur Municipality's Ward No 5 have been flooded after torrential downpour. 

The Nepal Police and Armed Police Force this morning launched a joint rescue operation to save the families, said District Police Office, Jhapa. 

The flooding in the Mechi river has inundated the human settlement in Bhadrapur Municipality – 5, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Hari Prasad Sharma said. 

The torrential rainfall has caused a flooding in the Aduwa river in Birtamode. The vehicular movement in Birta Bazaar have come to a standstill following an inundation. 

The transportation between Birtamode and Bhadrapur has also stopped as the flooding in the Deuniya river has endangered Harchana bridge, DSP Sharma said. 

The police have warned that human settlement in Jhapa are in danger of being flooded due to rise in water levels in Kankai, Biring, Hadiya, Kamal and Mechi rivers. 

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Agricultural Development Bank and National News Agency (RSS) offices in the district headquarters have been deluged with heavy rainfall. RSS
