UNITRAV hold 12th national convention

KATHMANDU, August 21: Union of Trekking Travels and Rafting Workers (UNITRAV) held its 12th National Convention in Kathmandu on Sunday. 

At the program, the UNITRAV honored 21-time Everest summiteers Kami Rita Sherpa as well as other 100 mountaineers.

Inaugurating the convention, General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) President Bishnu Rimal urged workers to exercise their rights to form a trade union. He also thanked mountaineering workers for their contribution to raising awareness about climate change. 

Highlighting the relation between workers and employers, he said that both the sides should work for the betterment of the institution. “Worker and employers are the two opposite sides of the magnet, and opposite sides of the magnet attract each other,” he said, adding: “Both the sides have the same interest of enhancing business and productivity of the institution.”
But workers want increment in wages and employers want increment in profit, he added.

Speaking at the event Chandra Rijal, president of Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) said workers’ issues must be addressed.  


Likewise, Binda Pandey, a member of the governing body of International Labor Organization, requested the entrepreneurs to cooperate with workers.
