KATHMANDU, July 24: Nepali play ‘Malini’ has been staged at ‘Indo Nepal International Theater Festival’ in Haryana, India, making it the first Nepali play to be performed at the festival. The drama is the Nepali adaptation of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s play ‘Malini.’

It is a tale of a princess who retires from her luxurious life for the sake of society and humanity’s service and takes up the path of Buddha.

After watching the play, Haryana Public Service Commission’s member, Vandana Sharma was all-praise for the Nepali adaptation. She said, “We not only share borders with Nepal but also share many social and cultural similarities. Programs like these will enhance our relation.”

Directed by Bimal Subedi, the play was staged at the now defunct Theatre Village in Lazimpat, six months back.

The play features Rojita Buddhacharya, Sujan Oli, Dilip Ranabhat, Sangeet Sapkota and Shravan Kumar. From Haryana, the team will take the play to Goa and Rajasthan next. They will return to Nepal on September 3.
