KATHMANDU, Sept 3: Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO) is going to present a paper on ‘Space Science Outreach and Capacity Building in Nepal’ on September on coming Thursday.

NASO Chairperson Suresh Bhattarai will present the paper which will highlight the importance of space science and its application and how we are using it in our day-to-day life.

The paper will present an overview of NASO’s activities during 2007-2016 on space science outreach in Nepal.

It will also share on how its programs motivated other groups to start their programs on space at the university level. It will also share the latest development on space science from both government and nongovernmental level in Nepal.

NASO started it space science outreach in 2007 with a view to creating public awareness on how Nepal does its weather forecasting, mapping and even television and telephone works.

It started advocating for Nepal's first satellite since 2007. Nepal has two satellite parking lots allocated to us by International Telecommunication Union (ITU). In 2009, The Youth Grant Program, now called Emerging Space Leaders Grant Program (ESL Grants) of International Astronautical Federation (IAF), allowed us to attend IAC, as well as in the UN/IAF Workshop and the Space Generation Congress opening our doors to international community to share our ideas and vision.
