Nat’l Karate Tourney from Nov 9

KATHMANDU, Sept 21: Nepal Karate Federation (NKF) is set to organize National Karate Tournament from November 9 to 11 at the Dasharath Stadium’s covered hall at Tripureshwor, Kathmandu.  

Organizing a press meet in the capital on Wednesday, coordinator Deepak Shrestha said that the tournament would be crucial in harnessing the skills of Nepali karate players and make them confident to win international competitions in the future.

He further said, “The tournament is being organized with an aim to prepare players keeping in mind the 18th Asian Games being held next year, the 13th South Asian Games to be held in Nepal in 2019, and the 2020 Olympics.”

A total of 210 karate players (100 women and 110 men) representing seven provinces and three departmental teams: Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC), Nepal Police Club, and Nepal APF Club are participating in the three-day tournament. 

The tournament will feature events like weight categories, women’s and men’s singles, and team kata under various weight categories. Altogether 21 winners of the tournament will be selected for the national team. The organizers informed that the tournament was being held at the estimated budget of Rs 2.9 million.

The categories of the tournament in women’s section are U-45 kg, U-50 kg, U-55, U-61 kg, U-68 kg, and above 68  kg while in the men’s section are U-50 kg, U-55 kg, U-60 kg, U-67 kg, U-75 kg, U-84 kg and above 84 kg.
