KATHMANDU, Sept 23: The 'Belt and Road Initiative' is expected to promote economic activities through the expansion of connectivity at the international level. 

Experts from various countries, speaking in the international symposium jointly organized by Pushpalal Memorial Foundation and the Tulsilal Memorial Foundation here today, stressed on the need of propelling the BRI as it would have positive impact on the economic prosperity of South Asia. 

Seminar coordinator Dr Banshidhar Mishra on the occasion shared that 80 countries have responded in the positive to participate in the BRI proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping. 
DP Singh from India, Prof Wang Zhou of China, Mizanur Rahman of Bangladesh, Aamir Rana of Pakistan among the speakers expressed their confidence that the Initiative would have positive effect on the economic, social, cultural and environmental aspects of South Asia. 

The symposium that started on Saturday concluded today saw the participation of National Planning Commission (NPC) former vice-chairman Dr Dinesh Chandra Devkota, senior advocate Bishwakanta Mainali, Engineer Sumitra Anatya and other scholars said the BRI would play an important role in the social empowerment of the people of this region through the extension of multilateral projects. 
 

Vice chairperson of the Youth Association Nepal, Dil Kumari Panta said the BRI would promote greater regional connectivity through road, railway and waterways, boost tourism and trade and commerce in the South Asia region. RSS
