TILATHI, July 28: Two Nepalis were injured in a clash that erupted between youths from Nepal and India at the no-man’s land following a debate over construction of a dam by Indian authorities.

Dev Narayan Yadav of Tilathi-4 and Roshan Jha of Tilathi-6 were injured after receiving stones hurled by the Indians.

Among the injured, the condition of Yadav is said to be serious. It is learnt that Indian locals targeted Yadav as he had been protesting the dam constructed illegally by the Southern neighbor.

The clash was ensued after local youths demolished a dam that was being constructed by India at the no-man’s land breaching international norms. Nepali youths damaged some 80 percent of the dam constructed by India.

Security personnel from both the countries are attempting to contain the clash.

With the dam construction underway, nearly half a dozen VDCs are on the verge of inundation. VDCs including Tilathi, Sakarpura, Rampura, Malhaniya were inundated after the swollen Khando rivulet entered into the southern part of the district. The rivulet also damaged the controversial Indian dam constructed near the no-man’s land.

Even though the Indian side started constructing the dam since Saturday, the work had been halted following the objection of the Saptari district administration.

Since 1971, Indian side has been constructing infrastructures including the dam, blocking the natural course of the Khando rivulet in the no-man’s land.
