Sirish Gurung is Bhat Bhateni's brand ambassador

KATHMANDU, July 29: Bhat Bhateni Supermarket and Departmental Store (BBSM) has appointed swimmer Sirish Gurung as its brand ambassador.

The leading shopping complex of the country signed an agreement with Gurung in this regard during a function organized in Kathmandu on Thursday.

As per the agreement, Sirish, who holds 14 national swimming records under his belt, will get Rs 100,000 each month for a period of one year. The contract will be valid for a year. Following the contract, Sirish also became the first Nepali player to get the highest amount as brand ambassador.

The 17-year old will also be competing in the 100 m freestyle in the Rio Olympics, which will begin on August 5.

Sirish and BBSM Chairman and Managing Director Min Bahadur Gurung signed the MoU.

As per the agreement, Sirish could be used in advertisement and promotion of BBSM. The latter will provide Sirish swimming kits for all domestic and international tournaments.

Similarly, Sirish must wear those kits in any event he participates in. BBSM will also provide Sirish with additional amount of Rs 10,000 for each national record he sets.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, Sirish said that he was pleased with the signing. “I am pleased for two reasons - I will be playing in the Rio Olympics for the first time and also big shopping complex of the country like BBSM made be brand ambassador,” he said.

“I wish to take Nepali swimming to new heights and such type of sponsorships will definitely motivate players,” Sirish said.

BBSM's Chairman Gurung shared that he achieved success in business due to hard work, honesty and patience and also suggested that Sirish could achieve higher level of success if he dedicates himself to the game with similar passion. “Sirish has achieved success at young age and he could make the nation proud even at international level,” he said.

Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) President Jeevan Ram Shrestha said that the tie-up between Sirish and BBSM was a good news for the whole Nepali sports fraternity. “NOC will always motivate and welcome private sector's entry in Nepali sports,” Shrestha said.
