Former boxer Pun dies

KATHMANDU, July 29: Former Nepali international boxer Indra Bahadur Pun Magar died on Thursday.

The 45-year-old Magar was suffering from intestine cancer and died while undergoing treatment at the Nepal Cancer Hospital and Research Center, Harisiddhi, Lalitpur.

Magar was the national boxing champion of 1994/95 and 1996/97.

He was also the bronze medalist of 1997 YMC International Boxing Championship in New Delhi and 1998 Mayor's Cup Championship in New Delhi.

He also competed in the qualifiers for Olympics. Late Magar's body was kept on the National Sports Council (NSC) premises for a couple of hours to offer him final tributes on Friday.

NSC Vice President Lama Tendi Sherpa, Nepal Boxing Association's immediate past president Rajiv Shrestha, boxing players, officials and other sportspersons paid tribute to Magar.

The dead body of Magar was taken to his home district in Tanahau for final rites.

Magar is survived by a wife, son and daughter.
