KATHMANDU, July 30: The incessant rain following the active monsoon activities has gradually started receding.

The heavy rain for a week resulted in big loss of lives and property as it triggered landslides in the hilly region and inundation in the Tarai area. According to the information provided by the Ministry of Home Affairs, 75 people were killed, 31 injured and 12 went missing due to the landslide and floods as of July 28.

The Meteorological Forecasting Division has stated that the western parts of the country will still receive rain for few more days. Meteorologist at the Division Barun Poudel said there is likelihood of heavy rain especially the far-western region for one or two days during the night.

"The continuous downpour has decreased since two or three days back and there is improvement in the weather. But caution should be observed as rain is likely in the western region," he said.

The weather was overcast with moderate rain in most parts of the country today also. Dhangadhi received the highest amount of rainfall at 41 millimeters and Dipayal the lowest of three millimeters today. Kathmandu received 12 millimeters, Taplejung 23 millimeters, Okhaldhunga 33 millimeters and Dadeldhura 19 millimeters rainfall today, the Division stated. RSS
