Tribhuvan Army Club advances to semifinal

KATHMANDU, Nov 16: Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) has advanced to the semifinals of the ongoing Chandragiri Gold Cup football tournament on Wednesday. 

The departmental side defeated Jawalakhel Youth Club 5-3 on tiebreaker at Naikap ground to book its place in the last four. 

The match was pushed to the tiebreaker after both sides failed to score in the regulation time despite having several scoring opportunities. 

Hiranya Magar, Rajiv Gurung, Arik Bista, Dinesh Karki and Rupesh Chhetri were the scorers for TAC. 

Similarly, Ram Thapa Magar, Sidibe and Ashim converted their penalty kicks while Suraj Thakuri's shot was saved by TAC goalie Gandip Khadka. After its first-choice goalkeeper Maheshwor Shrestha was injured in the 63rd minute, Khadka entered the ground as substitute. 

TAC had fielded our players from the U-19 national side while Jawalakhel played three African recruits. 

In the Group A match on Thursday, Nepal Police Club (NPC) will face Sankata Club and the winner will secure a berth in the semifinals. 

The tournament being held in knock-out format features a total of seven A-Division outfits divided into two groups. 

Along with NPC and Sankata, Friends Club and Bright Youth are pitted in Group A while TAC, Jawalakhel, Himalayan Sherpa Club and Armed Police Force are drawn in Group B. 

The champion of the tournament will bag Rs 500,000 while the runner-up will be given Rs 250,000.
