EC and NHRC hold discussions

KATHMANDU, Nov 20: Office-bearers of the Election Commission (EC) and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) have discussed the overall preparations and situation of upcoming elections to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies. 

A team led by chairperson of NHRC Anupraj Sharma here today enquired about the different issues including upcoming elections, security system, voters education and election code of conduct with Chief Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhee Prasad Yadav and other commissioners. 

Saying security situation, the main issue of concern regarding election, has not been seen strong, NHRC Chairperson Sharma stressed the need of making voter education more effective so as to make less invalid votes in the upcoming elections. 

He also enquired the security arrangement during the election to hold the election in a free and fearless manner across the country. 

Chairperson Sharma said, "I on the behalf of the NHRC urge the voters to exercise their voting rights in order to ensure prosperous nation and a stable government', adding the NHRC is going to deploy more than 200 human resources for the election observation. 

Similarly, chief election commissioner (CEC) Dr Ayodhee Prasad Yadav said that they could not manage the voting machines for this time due to inadequate time. 

He further said that the misuse of children in publicity campaign and arbitrary flow of money by candidates were also controlled this time in comparison to the past elections which was good sign. 

CEC Yadav reiterated for effective implementation of election code of conducts and urged all to cooperate in this regard. 

Also, present on the occasion were election commissioner Narendra Dahal, NHRC commissioners Prakash Wasti, Mohana Ansari among others. RSS
