Nepal, Thailand share point

KATHMANDU, Nov 21: Nepal and Thailand shared a point each in their ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifying Series Asia Region match on Monday. 

At Terdthai Cricket Ground, Bangkok, Nepal won the toss and invited Thailand for batting. Thailand made a total of 90-6 in the allotted 20 overs. 

Rain interrupted the match when Nepal had managed to score 10 runs in 3.4 overs. 

In other matches of the same competition, United Arab Emirates (UAE) saw off China by 16 runs while Hong Kong defeated Malaysia by 35 runs. 

The competition that is featuring a total of six Asian nations including host Thailand, Nepal, Hong Kong, UAE, Thailand, China, and Malaysia is being held in round-robin format. 

Top two teams will advance to the Global Qualifiers to be held in Netherlands in June next year, where Bangladesh and Ireland along with other six nations will be competing.  

Top two teams from the global qualifiers will join top six ranked teams in the ICC Women’s World 
T20 that will be held in the West Indies in November 2018.

Naruemol Chaiwai (23) was the top scorer with 23 runs for Thailand, while opener Nattakan Chantam (18) was other notable contributor for home team.  Skipper Sornnarin Tippoch and Chanida Sutthiruang scored 15 and 13 runs for the Thai team. 

Sarita Magar claimed two wickets for the Nepali side, while skipper Rubina Chhetry Belbashi and Karuna Bhandari added one wicket each. 

Nepali openers Jyoti Pandey and Sarita Magar had made unbeaten four and five runs before rain halted the match.
