Former Maoist lawmaker Pakhrin dies of heart attack

BHARATPUR, Nov 22: Former Maoist lawmaker and prominent singer Khusiram Pakhrin, 65, has been died of heart attack on Tuesday. He collapsed after singing during an election campaign of the left alliance in Chitwan and was immediately rushed to Narayani Community Hospital for treatment. However, he couldn't survive, said Maoist Center leader Narayan Dahal.  

The election campaign had begun after a mourning session in memory of the son of Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal. The Maoist Chairman's son Prakash Dahal had died of cardiac arrest on Sunday. 

On Tuesday, Pakhrin had sung two songs during the election campaign before his sudden death. 

Gorkha-born Pakhrin had been residing in Bharatpur.  He was elected as a Constituent Assembly member from the Maoist party in 2008 and was also a member of the central advisory committee of the party for the last few years.  He worked in the cultural wing of the Maoist party. He had lost a son during the Maoist insurgency.

Pakhrin, a songwriter, musician and singer, is remembered for his songs including 'Dada Kada Futalera Bato Banayo, Kalo Ban Ko Bichaima Khetalako Gau among others.
