RUKUM, Nov 23: Birjit Budha of Athbiskot Municipality ward -1 in Rukum will be taking part in the provincial elections for the first time. Since the announcement of the election date, he has been counting days to exercise his voting right.

As the poll candidates are doing their part to intensify the election fever, Budha is also found putting his efforts in encouraging his neighbors to take part in the elections scheduled for November 26.

Similarly, Karna Bahadur Oli of Sanibheri Municipality, Simli is also eager to take part in the elections. "We are happy that our country will be witnessing an election which is going to be held as per the new federal structure," he said.

The desire of experiencing change is making the voters keen to cast votes in the elections.  They are hopeful that the election will open doors for development and progress.

"We are hopeful that this election will play a pivotal role in the development of our locality, district, province and the nation as a whole," said Oli.

As their wait will finally come to an end on Sunday, there is great excitement among the locals here. The nomination of candidates for both the elections has created quite a stir but predicting the winners has been a challenge for all. Ram Bahadur KC of Musikot Municipality ward-3 is sure that the upcoming elections will pave way for the amendment of the constitution and the formation of the local government.

"A local level government is a must for the development of local units and I'm sure that it will be possible after the elections," he said. According to him, unstable government is the major reason behind the lack of development of the country.

With the date for elections inching nearer, discussions on elections have become a common issue in every nook and corner of the district including the tea stalls, intersections, shops and markets. People are holding discussions on which candidate to pick and which not to.

"Our votes have been useful in changing the fate of many leaders but none of them changed our lives," said Dhan Bahadur BK of Musikot Municipality, adding, "This time, we are not going let such selfish candidates take over the post. We are searching for the genuine ones."

The District Election Office (DEO) has also urged the voters to enthusiastically participate in the elections. Locals believe that even a single vote can make a difference, so, it is necessary for all voters to contribute to the elections by casting votes.

Meanwhile, some of the voters have expressed their concerns over the security arrangement. The series of bomb attacks and other anti-election activities by the parties who are against the election have made them worried about their safety.
