Marshmello in K-town

Marshmello in K-town

KATHMANDU, Dec 13: Kathmandu is all set to host yet another international artist for all EDM lovers. Celebrated for his mixes in the genre of Electronic Dance Music and his mascot head, DJ Marshmello is currently one of the highest-paid DJs in the world, according to Forbes. Since he started in 2015, his music has been appreciated worldwide. And In 2016, when he released his debut album ‘Joytime’ with popular songs like ‘Alone’, ‘Silence’, ‘Wolves’, he gained even more admiration.
Marshmello’s concert in Kathmandu is expected to psyche out all the party-goers and bass zombies. Taking his time out from his schedule, Marshmello talked to My City team before the big-day.

What is music for you?
Music for me is everything and has the power to change everything. It’s been a great experience, but the journey has just begun.

Which is your favorite composition so far?
‘Silence’ featuring Khalid and ‘Wolves’ with Selena Gomez.

Any other musicians/ DJs you follow or like?
I respect and follow all artists.

Based on your experience and observation, how easy or difficult is it to become a DJ?
Well, it needs passion and a lot of patience to become someone that people would be willing to listen to. It’s not easy for sure, but if you are passionate it’s not that difficult either.
Which is the best part of performing live?
The energy I get from the crowd is just spectacular. It drives me to a whole new level altogether.

Why the mask? And why did you choose marshmallow in particular?
It defines me and the kind of music I play and love to create. It’s soothing and nice.

Do you ever plan on performing without the mask?
Not for now.

How did you decide to perform in Nepal?
I have always wanted to perform in countries that I haven't been to, and meet fans from around the world. Also one of the things in my bucket list is to see the Mt Everest, so I’m here.

Do you have any message for aspiring Nepali musicians/DJs?
Create your own kind of music that defines you and that you believe in.

Marshmello is performing live on Wednesday at Club Déjà Vu, Durbar Marg, 7:00 pm onward.

HIGH EXCITEMENT

Not only Marshmello, but his fans here are equally excited to go to see him play live. Radio Nagarik 96.5 issued as many as 100 free tickets via lucky draw for the grand concert. Here are some of the lucky winners who shared their eagerness to attend the event.

I admire Marshmello’s music. Though I haven’t listened to all of his songs, I love ‘Alone’ and ‘Wolves’ in particular. His music style matches my taste in music too. I listen to his songs every now and then. And since the main event is on Wednesday, I have been listening to him on repeat since a few days now. This is my first time ever attending such events, and I am pretty excited for the show.

Niraj Shakya
BBS 1st year, Public Youth Campus

I have listened to Marshmello’s music and I like them-‘Alone’, ‘Wolves’ and ‘Silence’ all are great songs. I’m not a die-hard fan, but I’m very excited to attend the event. I have my friends to join me on the day, and I’m expecting it to be an energetic night. I have attended musical events before, so I have high hopes from this one.

Sadikshya Adhikari
BBA-TT 4th Semester, Apex College

I am thrilled to attend the event. I started telling all my friends about the event when I learnt that Marshmello is coming to Nepal through social media. I do follow Marshmello and his music; I love ‘Alone’ and its lyrics in particular. However, I would not call myself a big fan. This is my first international concert, and I will be accompanied by my friends. I hope the crowd there will be a fun one. I hope to dance around and enjoy the night.

Bandana Bajracharya
BBM 1st year, Saraswati Multiple Campus

I started listening to Marshmello from the start of his career. I have listened to each one of his songs and I absolutely love them all. I love ‘Alone’ more than others, for its music, lyrics and tone. I have been to musical shows before, but of national artists. This would be my first time attending the concert of an international artist. From the time the event was announced, I have been enthralled to attend it with my friends. I have exams the very next day still I will not miss the event, so you can guess my excitement level from that.
