36 parties seucre less than 100 votes in Khotang

KHOTANG, Dec 13: The number of political parties securing less than 100 has climbed to 36 in the district.

According to the office of the chief returning officer, Mahesh Bastola of Ekikrit Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Rastrabadi) contesting the elections under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system has secured 88 votes, Rastriya Janamukti Party’s Gokarna Rai got 78, Birlal Rai of Mangol National Organization got 68 and Ganesh Bahadur Rai of Federal Democratic National Forum got 49 votes.

Of the total 125, 108 votes, 71, 311 votes were cast in the first round of elections held on November 26. Nepali Congress (BP) and Desbhakta Samaj could not achieve even a single vote in the House of Representatives elections under the Proportional Representation System.

Rastriya Mukti Andolan Nepal got 70 votes, Churebhavar Loktantrik Party achieved 58, Mangol National Organization 42, Nepal Workers and Pageants Party 34, Rastriya Janamukti Party 31, Nepalbad 24,  Nepal Loktantrik Janata Congress 21, Federal Democratic National Forum 19,  according to the Election Office.

Similarly, Janashakti Nepal got 14 votes, Nepal Janata Party 14, Desbhakta Janaganatantrik Morcha 13, Nepal Naulo Janabadi 12, Nepal Samabesi 11, Nepal Sukumbasi Democratic 10, Amul Pariwartan Masiha Party 10, Rastriya Samajbadi 10 while the other 17 fringe parties secured 73 votes.

Similarly, in the provincial elections under the PR system, Khambuwan Democratic Nepal secured 91, Mangol National Organization obtained 69 votes, Rastriya Mukti Andolan 68, Churebhawar Democratic 48, NWPP 28, Desbhakta Janaganatantrik Morcha 26, Rastriya Janamukti 23, Nepal Janata Party 15, Federal Democratic National Forum 14, Green Party 13, Janaprajatantrik13, Amul Pariwartan Masiha 13,  Federal Socialist Forum Nepal 7, said office of the chief returning officer.

As many as 36, 554 votes were cast in Khotang 1 (A) while 34, 698 in Khotang-1 (B) in the provincial elections on November 26.

Over 26,000 votes were invalid.
