KATHMANDU, Dec 14: The main opposition party, CPN-UML, which has emerged as the single largest party in the recently held parliamentary and provincial assembly polls, has warned the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) not to make any key decisions that may have long-term impacts including key appointments and promotion of police officials.

The UML has renewed its warning as the government is preparing to declare temporary headquarters of provinces and appoint governors for each province through cabinet meeting scheduled for Thursday.

UML leaders said they have also received information that the government is trying to remove 30-year service limit of police officials and giving an extension to senior police officials who are set to retire soon under the monetary influence.

UML leader Agni Kharel said that the current government cannot take any decision to declare provincial capital or appoint governors on moral grounds. “Even if the government makes any such appointment, the new government shall not give continuity to such decisions,” he said, while warning the NC-led government to refrain from taking any such decisions.

Earlier, UML General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel had issued the statement warning the government not to make any appointments or take any decision that has far-reaching consequences. The UML has maintained that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba should immediately step down as the NC has faced a humiliating defeat in the elections.
