MYAGDI, Dec 15: Rampant child marriage in Myagdi has been attributed to growing gender violence among adolescents in the district.

Speaking at a function, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Basundhara Khadka said child marriage is the main cause of divorce as well as mental and physical violence in early age.

The function was organized by various NGOs and organizations in Dhaulagiri rural Municipality. Officials of a local children network and adolescents participated in the function. DSP Khadka urged the adolescents not to marry early so as to avoid such problems.

“There are young parents who go to school with their own children. Such problem is higher in rural areas than in the cities,” he said. “Lately, we are increasingly receiving complaints and cases of adolescent-related violence. In adolescent age, one should focus on their education. So, it is wise to avoid the trap of early marriage and focus on education instead,” he urged the participants.
