KATHMANDU, Jan 3: Gorkha Brewery’s Redbull on Tuesday decided to be the main sponsor of three consecutive editions of Dhorpatan Women’s Volleyball Tournament, starting with the 13th edition.

President of Dhorpatan Volleyball Club Mahabir Chhatyal said that Redbull will be sponsoring the tournament, which is being held in ‘double league’ format, with sponsorship amount worth Rs 1.1 million each year.  The tournament, to be named Redbull Dhorpatan UM Women’s Volleyball League Championship, will be played at Gongabu, Kathmandu.

Chhatyal and chief marketing manager of Gorkha Brewery, Indra Regmi, on Tuesday signed an agreement for the tournament’s sponsorship.  

The organizers informed that 12 teams will take part in the tournament, which will run for 16 days. Each team can play three foreign players in the tournament. 

IME Automotives and Samakhusi English Boarding School are co-sponsoring the tournament. IME Automotives, which is also a title sponsor of the tournament, will provide five UM Power Max Scooters to the best players.  Armed Police Force (APF), New Diamond Academy (NDA), Nepal Police Club (NPC), Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC), New Diamond Sports Club, Tops Boarding Higher Secondary School, Eastern Volleyball Association, Paramount Boarding Higher Secondary School, Springdale English Secondary School, Shreegaun Sports Development Committee, Meghauli Sports Foundation, and Three Star Academy will take part in the tournament. 

The winner of the tournament will take home Rs 325,000, while the runner-up will be awarded Rs 170,000. The third-placed team will get Rs 80,000. The best player, the emerging player, the player of the year, and the player of the tournament will be rewarded with a scooter each. The fifth scooter will go to one lucky winner. The best coach, the best lifter, the best spiker, the best blocker, the best quicker, the best defender, and the best server will bag a purse of Rs 5,000 each.
