TAC’s Adhikari wins gold

KATHMANDU, Jan 12: Departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC)’s Kamal Bahadur Adhikari has bagged the gold medal in the 23rd National Weight-Lifting Tournament under the National Sports Council (NSC) Championship on Thursday.

Targeting to improve the national record, Olympian Adhikari was limited just with the gold medal. 
He lifted 120 kg in snatch in the 77 kg weight group. The previous record of 122 kg was also to his name. Adhikari won the gold lifting a total of 273 kg including 153 kg in clean and jerk. TAC’s Gyan Bahadur Sari won the silver medal lifting a total of 212 kg including 97 kg in snatch. Likewise, Nepal Police Club (NPC)’s Prem Prakash Baishya won the bronze lifting 115 kg in clean and jerk. He won the bronze medal as he lifted a total of 208 kg including 118 kg in clean and 90 kg in snatch. 

Meanwhile, in the Eighth Women’s National Weight-Lifting Tournament matches played in Pokhara, TAC’s Manita Shrestha claimed the gold medal lifting a total of 140 kg in the 63 kg weight-group. She lifted 60 kg in snatch and 80 kg in clean and jerk. TAC’s Sharada Chaudhary claimed the silver medal lifting 128 kg. She lifted 56 kg in snatch and 72 kg in clean and jerk. 
Also, in the women’s category, NPC’s Rajya Laxmi Thapa won gold medal lifting a total of 143 kg including 60 kg in snatch and 83 kg in clean and jerk in the 69 kg weight-group. TAC’s Usha Khadka won the silver medal lifting a total of 122 kg including 52 kg in snatch and 70 kg in clean and jerk. Also, NPC’s Janaki Budha claimed the bronze medal lifting a total of 110 kg including 45 kg in snatch and 65 kg in clean and jerk. 

In the tournament organized to select players for the 13th South Asian Games (SAG) to be held from March 9 to 18 in 2019, NPC’s Laxmi Ban won the gold medal lifting a total of 142 kg including 62 kg in snatch and 80 kg in clean and jerk.  TAC’s Man Kumari Kumal bagged the silver medal lifting a total of 134 kg including 58 kg in snatch and 76 kg in clean and jerk. Likewise, Saptari’s Shanti Chaudhary won the bronze medal lifting a total of 125 kg. 

In the 90 kg weight-group’s singles category, NPC’s Tara Devi Pun claimed a gold medal lifting a total of 167 kg including 70 kg in snatch and 97 kg in clean and jerk. 

In the men’s 62 kg weight group, TAC’s Raju Chaudhary won two gold medals lifting a total of 193 kg including 86 kg in snatch, but lost to Mui Lama in clean. Lama won the gold lifting 108 kg. Chaudhary won the silver lifting 107 kg, while Lama bagged the silver lifting a total of 193 kg including 85 kg in snatch. Armed Police Force (APF)’s Subhash Kumar Shah won the bronze medal lifting a total of 163 kg. He lifted 73 kg in snatch and 90 kg in clean. 

Likewise, NPC’s Bikash Thapa won gold medals in snatch in the 69 kg weight-group. He lifted 125 kg in clean, but came behind to Banke’s Prakash KC in clean. Thapa lifted a total of 237 kg including 112 in snatch. 

KC won the gold medal in clean lifting 130 kg, but KC lifted a total of 236 kg including 106 kg in snatch. Likewise, Banke’s Suraj Baishya won two bronze medals lifting a total of 180 kg including 105 kg in clean. Kaski’s Dhan Bahadur Jhakri won a bronze medal lifting 80 kg in snatch. 

Kabaddi
Defending champion and departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) has won the 22nd Men’s and 17th Women’s National Kabaddi Tournament on Thursday.  In the men’s category match played in Bardiya, TAC defeated Western Region 39-25, while it beat Far-western Region 39-22 in the women’s category. 

TAC’s Nageshwor Tharu and Menu Rajbanshi were declared the best players in men’s and women’s categories, respectively. They both were rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 15,000 each. 
A total of seven men’s teams and eight women’s teams had participated in the tournament.
