Rahul Goyal of Shalimar Jewelers arrested

KATHMANDU, Jan 16: Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has arrested the owner of Shalimar Jewelers Rahul Goyal claiming his involvement in the gold smuggling racket.

According to CIB chief Pushkar Karki, Goyal is in bureau custody, accusing him of his alleged involvement in the smuggling of 33 kg gold.

Based on the intelligence provided by the global police, INTERPOL, the CIB on January 5, 2017, had intercepted 33.577 kg of 'smuggled' gold from Pingalasthan of Kathmandu after the valuables were being taken to the market following customs clearance at the Tribhuvan International Airport.

The CIB had already arrested 12 individuals, including SSP Shyam Bahadur Khatri, on the charge of involvement in the gold smuggling racket while 21 others, including Goyal, were at large.

The bureau had filed charge sheet against 33 individuals at the Kathmandu District Court claiming their involvement in the gold smuggling racket.
