APF, Far-western into semis

KATHMANDU, Jan 17: Departmental team Armed Police Force (APF) and Far-western Region have advanced into the last four of the ongoing 28th Men’s National Football Tournament under the National Sports Council (NSC) Championship on Tuesday.

In the match played at Tulsipur in Dang, APF defeated Mid-western Region 1-0 with an 11th minute strike from Amrit Adhikari in the curtain opener of the tournament.

In the other match played at Ghorahi in Dang, Far-western Region beat Central Region 1-0 courtesy of a 87th minute decider by Thilip Tamang.

A total of five regional teams and three departmental teams are taking part in the tournament which is played in knockout format.  Western Region will take on departmental team Nepal Police Club (NPC) at Tulsipur and Eastern Region will face Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) at Ghorahi. 

Hockey
The defending champion departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) and Far-western Region has advanced into the semifinals of the ongoing 17th Men’s and second Women’s National Hockey Tournament under the NSC Championship on Tuesday. 

Both the teams entered the last four as group winners. TAC advanced as the Group ‘A’ winner, while Far-western as the Group ‘B’ winner. 

In the men’s category match played at the ground of Institute of Forestry in Hetauda, TAC defeated Mid-western Region 4-0 in which Dev Singh Dhami and Deependra Air bagged a brace each. Likewise, Far-western beat Western Region 2-0 courtesy of a goal each from Deepak Raj Joshi and Rajesh Bista. 

Similarly, in the women’s match played on the same day, TAC and Western Region won their respective matches played in round-robin league format. TAC saw off Eastern Region 6-0 in which Sita Maya Bal scored 4 goals, while Pinky Sinjali and Tanka Maya Khapangi bagged a goal each. TAC is at the top of the standings with six points from two matches. 

In the other match of the same category, Western Region overcame Far-western Region 1-0 in which Madhu Kumari Sarraf scored the deciding goal of the match. It is the second consecutive defeat for defending champion Far-western as it was beaten by TAC on Monday. 

Taekwondo
The 14th National Taekwondo Tournament under the NSC Championship is set to be held in the Nepal Taekwondo Academy at Satdobato from Thursday. 

The director of Nepal Taekwondo Association (NTA), Ramsharan Adhikari, informed that the tournament will be played in a total of 22 categories including gyarogi and poomsae. A total of eight categories of matches will be played in gyarogi and three in poomsae of both men’s and women’s categories. 

The men’s matches involve U-55 kg, U-58 kg, U-63 kg, U-68 kg, U-74 kg, U-80 kg, U-87 kg and U-87 kg weight groups categories will be played in gyarogi event, while U-46 kg, U-49 kg, U-53 kg, U-57 kg, U-62 kg, U-67 kg, U-73 kg and U-77 kg will be played in women’s category. 

Similarly, both the women’s and men’s matches of 14-16 age group, U-20 age group and over-20 age group will be played in poomsae category.  A total of five regional teams and three departmental teams including 176 players of eight teams will take part in the three-day tournament, informed Adhikari. 

Kho Kho
The third National Kho Kho Tournament under the NSC Championship is set to be held in Rupandehi’s Guras Sports Stadium from Thursday. 

The General Secretary of Nepal Kho Kho Association Sanu Raja Shakya informed that six teams each from men’s and women’s categories will participate in the tournament. 

A total of five regional teams and TAC will take part in the tournament which will be played in league cum knockout format.
