Paramount starts with two wins

KATHMANDU, Jan 19: The 13th edition of the Red Bull Dhorpatan UM Women’s Volleyball Double League Tournament has started in the capital from Thursday. 

In the first match played at the Dhorpatan Sports Club’s ground, New Buspark, Paramount Academy made a winning start registering a 3-1 victory over Springdale Boarding School, while it also saw off Three Star Academy in a straight set of 3-0 on the same day.  Paramount defeated Springdale 25-17, 25-19, 25-27, 25-8 and Three Star 25-8, 25-19, 25-20. 

In the other matches played, Departmental teams Armed Police Force (APF), Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) and Shivam New Diamond Academy (NDA) also started with wins. 

APF thumped Springdale 25-3, 25-4, 25-5, NDA saw thrashed New Diamond Sports Club (NDSC) 25-0, 25-1, 25-5. Likewise, TAC got past NDSC 25-14, 25-5, 25-9. 

A total of 12 teams: NDA, NDSC, Pokhara’s Tops High School, Eastern Regional Women’s Volleyball Team, Paramount, Springdale, Shree Gaun Sports Development Committee, Meghauli Sports Foundation, Three Star, including departmental teams APF, TAC and Nepal Police Club (NPC) are taking part in the tournament, which will be concluded on February 2. 

The winner of the tournament will take home Rs 325,000, while the runner-up and the third-placed sides will bag Rs 170,000 and Rs 80,000 respectively. Likewise, the fourth-placed, the fifth-placed, the sixth-placed and the seventh-placed teams will get Rs 50,000, Rs 40,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively. 

Similarly, the best player, the best rising player, the player of the year and the player of the series of the tournament will be rewarded with a scooter. Also, the best spiker, the best defender, the best setter, the best server, the best blocker, the best kicker and the best coach will get Rs 5,000 each. The organizers informed that a spectator, who watches all the matches from the start to the end, will also receive a scooter through a lucky draw.

Six matches will be played on Friday. NDSA will take on APF in the first match. On the same day, NDA will face Three Star, TAC will battle against Paramount, Springdale will play against Three Star and APF and TAC will vie against NPC and Springdale respectively.
