Dalit settlement waiting for warm clothes

The poor locals of Khairabani rural municipality are waiting for warm clothes and other urgent essential goods as they are adversely affected by the cold wave. Most of the locals in the settlement are Dalits who are poor and underprivileged lacking almost all basic amenities including drinking water, sufficient food, shelter and schools. 

Prohibitory Order as long as protest forms doesn’t change in Dhankuta

Following its inconclusive discussion with residents of Dhankuta and political parties, the local administration office has continued with its prohibitory order on Saturday. The local administration has decided that as long as the protest form doesn’t change, the district will reel under prohibitory order, Prem Prakash Upreti, chief district officer said.

Tuberculosis kills 7,000 annually

The National Tuberculosis Centre (NTC) Bhaktapur has revealed that around 35,000 new patients of tuberculosis have been detected every year.  A total of 120 new TB patients have been traced every day while maximum of 7,000 TB patients succumb to TB every year. The NTC said that some 45 per cent of the country's population is at risk of TB prevalence. 

32 metric tons solid waste extracted from valley rivers

32 metric tons of solidwaste was extracted in the 245th weekly cleaning of various rivers and the ring road of the valley today. The cleaning campaign that began with the Bagmati cleaning mega campaign on May 19, 2013 has taken a nationwide form with cleaning of rivers, towns and market places now taking place in more than 45 locations across the country.

In shutdowns, non-essential government employees are furloughed, or placed on temporary unpaid leave. Workers deemed essential, including those dealing with public safety and national security, keep working.
