Chandra Bahadur Pahari is a 70-year-old retired farmer from Rai Gaun, Makawanpur. He came to Kathmandu four days ago for his eye operation. He had come to Kathmandu for the first time a few months ago for operation on his other eye. This is his second visit to the capital. He thinks that it’s impossible for someone like him to live in Kathmandu because he has no education or skills that could help him earn any money here. “This is the reason I never tried to come to Kathmandu. I am here only because we don’t have proper healthcare facilities in Makawanpur,” he said. Having spent his life in agriculture, Pahari quit working in the fields after his eye started to trouble him. Now, he passes his time looking after his grandchildren. Back home, he owns a couple of cows and eight goats. He said his cattle are like his children to him.
