KATHMANDU, Jan 27: Yeti Airlines, in partnership with United Nations Development Program (UNDP), has formally initiated the process to transform itself into a carbon neutral airline. Issuing a statement on Friday, Yeti Airlines stated that the airline shared the results of its first annual Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory along with plans to reduce and offset emissions, at a workshop held on Friday at Hotel Himalaya. The event was attended by representatives from the Government of Nepal, Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, UNDP, civil society organizations, and the private sector, according to the statement. This first exercise examined the GHG emissions resulting from air travel, vehicle use and facility operations, added the statement. According to the statement, the preliminary carbon footprint report shows Yeti Airlines produced 18,113 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions in 2017 mainly from aircraft fuel consumed to service the cities which equals the amount of carbon sequestered by approximately 470,000 trees over 10 years.
