MAKWANPUR, Feb 12: The announcement of Hetauda Sub-metropolis to provide land to the parliamentarians of Province 3 along with accommodation facility has drawn flak from various quarters of society.

Though the decision of managing accommodation facility for the parliamentarians outside of Makwanpur was welcomed by all, the decision of allowing land purchase in installment basis has received much criticism. Parliamentarians who have been receiving 40 % discount for lodging and 15 % discount in food at hotels of Hetauda have expressed their disappointment toward this decision.

On Sunday, other parliamentarians raised this issue even during a program organized to congratulate the newly appointed speaker and deputy speaker of the province. Expressing her disappointment toward the decision of the sub-metropolis, Rita Majhi, a parliamentarian from Ramechhap, urged the sub-metropolis to instead provide land to the people of underprivileged and marginalized communities who have been struggling for shelter in lack of land.

Giving an example of the integrated settlement built by acclaimed comedian couple Sitaram Kattel and Kunjana Ghimire, the parliamentarians stressed that the government should be more responsible toward its citizens.

CPN (Maoist Center) leader and parliamentarian from Dhading, Shalikram Jamakattel, vented his ire against the decision saying that this decision was an insult to them. He stated that parliamentarians should not be tempted to such things. Some of them even thanked the sub-metropolis but refused to accept the deal. Such kind of decision can defame the reputation and image of parliamentarians, according to Jamakattel.

Some parliamentarians even said that decision was shameful. Bibeksheel Sajha Party was the first to raise voice against the decision. As per the leaders, the announcement to provide land to them at comparatively low price than the market price is no less than a corruption. All three lawmakers of Bibeksheel Sajha Party in Province 3 have refused to accept such land.

Meanwhile, Hetauda Sub-metropolis has clarified that the decision was taken to make it easier for the parliamentarians of Province 3 to build a temporary house in Hetauda. An all-party meeting of the sub-metropolis had made the decision under the leadership of Hari Bahadur Mahat, mayor of Hetauda.
