Pashupatinath on Maha Shivaratri

KATHMANDU, Feb 14: Maha Shivaratri is known as the favorite day of Lord Shiva. There are various legends and myths associated with this day. According to one of the popular legends, this was the day when Lord Shiva drank poison and performed tandav dance to protect the world from destruction. Likewise, another legend describes this day as the day when Lord Shiva tied the knot with Goddess Parvati. Maha Shivaratri was celebrated on Tuesday this year and the temples of Lord Shiva across the country were decorated beautifully with lights and flowers. Throngs of devotees, not only from Nepal but from neighboring country India too visit Pashupatinath Temple every year during Maha Shivaratri. This year too, the vibrancy was visible. Pashupatinath Temple was full of devotees on the day, including naked and semi-naked sadhus decorated in ashes being the main attraction.
