Pilot Neupane honored posthumously

KATHMANDU, Aug 13: The late pilot Dinesh Neupane, who lost his life in his attempt to save passengers' lives by landing the aircraft he was steering safely, has been honored with the 'Narayan-Ishwori Neupane Samajsewa Ojaswi Award'.

Neupane Bandhu Samaj honored Neupane posthumously for saving many lives even by sacrificing his own life amid a program in the Capital on Saturday.

Former lieutenant general of Nepal Army Balananda Sharma handed over the award to Neupane's father Mandatta, mother Birlaxmi and wife Rajani jointly.

The award carries a purse of Rs 11111 in cash and a certificate of appreciation.

Neupane was killed when he made an emergency landing of the aircraft with the call sign9N-AJB belonging to Kasthamandap Airlines he was steering at Chilkhaya in Kalikot on March 12.

Although lives of all nine passengers were saved, the co-pilot Santosh Rana was also killed in the crash. The aircraft was heading to Jumla from Nepalgunj when the crash occurred.

Also on the occasion, Neupane's son Avash and daughter Roshani were presented with Rs 11,111 in cash each and a certificate of appreciation for getting highest marks in the higher secondary school final examinations. RSS
