NEPALGUNJ, March 9: Ever since she was elected to the local unit, Rekha Verma, the female member of Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City ward no. 7, has actively participated in each and every work of her ward. She has left no stone unturned to justify her election to the post.

Verma, who has been working selflessly for the welfare of the people of her ward for the last eight months, has expressed dissatisfaction over the provincial government's proposal on the distribution of perks and benefits to the local representatives.   "We all were elected by the same people. So, why is there discrimination in distribution of perks and benefits?" she asks. According to her, the government should be fair to all the members of the local unit as they all put equal efforts to do their jobs.

Similarly, Ramesh Timalsina, the ward member of Nepalgunj Sub-metropolis-9 has similar views on the proposal of the provincial government. After assuming office, he has devoted himself completely to working for the betterment of his ward. But the proposal introduced by the provincial government has hugely disappointed him. "The decision of the provincial government to provide perks and benefits only to the chiefs by excluding the members of the local units has discouraged us," said   Timalsina.

Ward members and executive bodies of Province 5 have vented their ire against the provincial government for depriving them of salaries and allowances. They are preparing to put this issue at the upcoming meeting of the provincial government.

They have demanded correction to the proposal and also urged the provincial government to provide them salaries and allowances they 'deserve'. Not just that, they formed a ' Joint Struggle Committee' and also submitted a statement to the chief minister of the province on Wednesday through Dr Dhawal Shumsher Rana, mayor of Nepalgunj Sub-metropolis, in order to draw the provincial government's attention to their issue.

Basanta Joshi, member of the executive body of Nepalgunj-10, expressed dissatisfaction over the 'discriminatory' proposal of the provincial government.  "We have put our hearts and souls into doing our jobs but why is this discrimination?" asked Joshi. Many members say that this decision may discourage them from executing their duties with the same enthusiasm and devotion as earlier.  The decision of the provincial government has irked almost all the ward and executive body members of the province.
