Chinese Embassy marks International Women’s Day

The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China organized a reception to celebrate the 108th International Women’s Day on Thursday at Hotel Yak and Yeti, Kathmandu. Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Yu Hong, hosted the reception which was attended by national as well as international women frontrunners including ministers, diplomats, social activists, and business leaders.

“Criminalizing Chhaupadi is an example that Nepal is making its attempts to implement progressive laws and policies for elimination of violence against women,” said Thapa. “We have gathered here to celebrate our unity and it is only through the collaborative approach that we can further unite and empower women by safeguarding their rights,” she added.

Acknowledging the increasing participation of women in the country’s political positions, Ambassador Hong felicitated the newly elected female political leaders and ensured to collaboratively work for women empowerment in Nepal. “China has supported Nepal in its several attempts, and will look forward to work in cohesion to enhance the political, cultural, social as well as economic ties between the two countries,” she Hong.
