Indian, Chinese, B'desh presidents congratulate President Bhandari

KATHMANDU, March 16: Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian President Ram Nath Kovind have congratulated Bidya Devi Bhandari on her reelection as president of Nepal. 

According to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in Kathmandu, President Xi congratulated President Bhandari on her assumption of the Office of the President of Nepal. In the congratulatory message, the President of the People's Republic of China has said that China attaches great importance to the development of China-Nepal relations and expressed his readiness to work together to promote bilateral relationship. 

President Bhandari was sworn in as President for the second time on Wednesday. 

Similarly, Indian President Kovind congratulated to his Nepali counterpart Bhandari on her election as President for the second term. President Kovind, in his message, has expressed confidence that under her wise guidance, Nepal will move forward on the path of prosperity and all-round development. President Kovind has also mentioned that India attaches highest priority to advancing its close and multifaceted partnership with Nepal, MoFA said. 

President of Bangladesh Abdul Hamid has also joined in congratulating President Bhandari on her reelection. In a message of congratulations, Hamid has reiterated the high importance that Bangladesh attaches to its relations with Nepal and expressed commitment to working closely for further strengthening relationship for the mutual benefit, according to a separate press statement issued by MoFA on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Secretary General of South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Amjad Hussain B Sial, on behalf of all officials of the SAARC Secretariat, felicitated President Bhandari on her reelection. In his letter addressed to the president, Secretary General Sial said her reelection is amply indicative of the trust and confidence that the people of Nepal rest in her sagacious leadership. 

Secretary-General Sial mentioned that Nepal as the founding member of the SAARC had played a key role in the evolution of regional cooperation under the auspices of SAARC since its inception in 1985.
