KATHMANDU, March 21: Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Matrika Prasad Yadav has said that the landlocked countries and least developed countries have become unrestricted market for trade of other countries. 

Addressing an informal two-day ministerial meeting of World Trade Organization held in New Delhi on Tuesday, Minister Yadav expressed his dissatisfaction to the meeting stating that the least developed countries and landlocked countries have to cope with an array of non-tariff trade barriers while trading with other countries. According to a press statement issued by the ministry, Minister Yadav also urged for implementing past decisions and announcements for reforms in the global trade. 

“This organization should work to protect interests of developing and least developed countries by special arrangements and programs fit for LDCs and landlocked countries as per their special needs,” Yadav said. “Such programs and actions should be developed considering the country’s status.”

Yadav assumed office two weeks ago after the left alliance was elected to the government. 

“The WTO should function in a way that all its member countries benefit from it,” said Yadav, adding that it should create a favorable environment for the purpose. In the sidelines of the meeting, minister Yadav also briefly met Indian prime minister Narenda Modi, who also had addressed the meeting. Government ministers and concerned delegates from 45 countries participated in the meeting.
