The Embassy of Pakistan has handed over scholarships to 250 needy and talented students of secondary and higher secondary schools from across Nepal. The amount of each scholarship was Rs 10,000.

At an event hosted by the Embassy at Hyatt Regency Hotel in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Secretary of Education Khaga Raj Baral and Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal Dr Mazar Javed handed over the scholarships to the students.

Baral, who was the chief guest of the event, commended the Pakistani government for providing the scholarships to Nepali student. He further stated that the scholarship aimed to support technical studies and that it would help produce productive manpower. 

Likewise, Ambassador Javed said that the scholarship aimed to support Nepali students and also to strengthen bilateral relations between Nepal and Pakistan. He said that students were selected from more than 40 districts across Nepal for scholarship.

In his recent Nepal visit, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had announced to double the scholarship amount provided to Nepali student studying in Pakistan. 

Kasam Pokharel, 17, who topped the SEE examinations in 2017, was among the 250 students receiving the scholarship. Pokharel said he received the scholarship through the recommendation of his school due to his performance in SEE examinations. He said the scholarship has made him confident on his studies. 

“This scholarship has added responsibility in us, so we have to be more concerned about future and work even more diligently,” Pokharel said.
