Four months into the New Year 2018 and we have the Nepali New Year 2075 (according to Bikram Sambat), just around the corner. The festival invites celebrations from Nepalis both within and without the country. 

The first day of the year, Baisakh 1, not just marks a new beginning in the Nepali calendar but it calls for new hopes and aspirations to lead our way. In such manner, every year becomes a diary that records work that we experienced throughout the year; some may have failed while some have come to fruition but to look back and turn the pages of our work-diary is what provides us with the hope to attain better every year.
While everyone is gearing up to welcome the New Year 2075, My City’s Sonam Lama talked to few of the celebrities to know how they have recorded their 2074 and how they have been looking forward to the New Year 2075.

 This New Year I will be attending a get together with my friends where we will be sharing and exchanging our works of poetry. The experience of 2074 was progressive in a sense that I penned a large volume of play called ‘Mitini’ which evokes the unethical practices of child marriage. Out of its 120 episodes many of them have been aired on radio. This year I also got the opportunity to visit the rural areas of china which was quite productive. I have few plans on my priority list this year. I will hopefully publish my new collection of poetry and explore places and people to gather stories for my further works. Since I have a better understanding of Nepali dates and culture, I highly prefer to celebrate Nepali year.

 I have decided to spend some quality time with my family this New Year. We will probably be heading to Nagarkot for the celebration. I am also planning to watch the new release Lily Bily. To recall this year I have had an amazing time meeting and working with many different people from film fraternity. The movie ‘Ward no 6’ made under my direction this year was bagged many awards which are quite motivating. I am currently occupied with a film which I am planning to release in 2075 and also have been looking forward to making Nepali movie under Hollywood production this year. When it comes to celebration I am up for every sort of festivity--be it English or Nepali new year.

We have been looking forward to performing at Gongabu in the New Year’s Eve. With my upcoming movie ‘Hairan’ releasing this year, I hope to continue with music and film this year as well. The year 2074 held newer experiences for my brother Swaroop and me as we initiated our works in acting with ‘Sadhe 7’ and film producing. We have also been planning to travel on a musical tour in Jestha and release a Gazal album the same year. Moreover, the upcoming year is going to be special because I am writing a biography based on my father's life which we are planning to launch on his birthday in Asoj. I think Nepali New Year is one of the highly observed occasions here and we are used to celebrating it with much hope and positivity.

I have no plans as such for the New Year because I am busy preparing for my master's exam that will take place from the next day of the New Year. I may go with a light celebration with my dear ones after the exams though. The year 2074 has invited memorable moments in my life. My debut ‘Aishwarya’ got released this year that initiated my career in films. This year I was also awarded with debut artist award by film association Nepal which is a huge achievement for me. For the upcoming New Year I have many positive hopes that I will have a great time exploring the Nepali cinema. And I am also planning to work out in order to maintain my physical fitness.
