Post-quake housing reconstruction begins in Nuwakot

A housing reconstruction project supported by the Indian government has come into force in Nuwakot. The project will benefit over 23,000 families that were affected by the April 2015’s earthquake in the district. 

Solukhumbu declared 'fully immunized’

Following immunization to 1,924 children, Solukhumbu district has been declared as the 42nd district to achieve 'fully immunized status’. 

Foreign investors register 194 industries

In the first eight months, 194 industries with foreign investment have been registered at the Department of Industry. The registered industries cover areas of agriculture, energy, information and communication technology, production, minerals, tourism and service sectors. Of the registered industries, 10 are large-scale, four medium-scale and 180 small-scale industries. 

Complaint about presence of urea in sugar draws DAO attention

Complaint about the supply of adulterated sugar from a shop based in Diktel has prompted the District Administration Office, Khotang to probe the matter. The Janaki General Order and Supplies has been accused of supplying sugar containing urea fertilizer. The shop proprietor was summoned to the office to grill about the alleged charge.

Pakistan watchdog says country failing on human rights

A Pakistani watchdog criticized the country's human rights record over the past year in a new report saying the nation has failed to make progress on a myriad of issues, ranging from forced disappearances, to women's rights and protection of religious minorities. The report card issued by the HRC of Pakistan said people continue to disappear in Pakistan, sometimes because they criticize the country's powerful military or because they advocate better relations with neighboring India.

Surfer mauled by shark swims to shore despite leg injuries

A surfer mauled by a shark Monday off southwestern Australia managed to swim to shore despite serious injuries to both of his legs. Alejandro Travaglini was surfing at Gracetown around 8 a.m. when he was attacked. The Argentinian-born 37-year-old was treated on the beach by paramedics before he was flown by helicopter 250 kilometers (160 miles) to a hospital in the city of Perth.
