PM Oli steps in Madesh after three years to enroll children to school in Siraha

KATHMANDU, April 18: For the first time after the third Madesh revolution of 2072 BS, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has headed to Siraha for his government’s national campaign on school enrollment.

Oli along with his accompanies; Giriraj Mani Pokhrel, Minister of Education, Lal Babu Raut, Chief Minister of Province 2 and Rudra Prasad Pandit, Siraha’s chief district officer will take guardianship of five children from Dalit communities. Earlier, the Prime Minister had taken guardianship of Thinle Sangmu Lama and admitted her in a school in Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality, Mugu.  

Oli along with his accompanies will enroll the children at Ram Dulari Secondary School of Kalyanpur municipality-11. More than 49 per cent children are out of schools in the district.

Oli will take guardianship of Rupa Kumari Khatwe and Pawan Malik Dom while Pokhrel, Raut and Pandit will enroll one each.

“Residents of the district are excited with Prime Minister’s arrival and his campaign,” according to a local resident, “we are looking forward to new development packages as well.”  

On April 15, the government launched a nationwide student’s enrollment campaign. The campaign aims to bring children remaining out of school to schools. Free distribution of textbooks is the part of the campaign as the government has allocated over Rs 2.2 billion to hand a full set of textbooks to students during the campaign.

With the campaign, the Department of Education aims to increase student enrollment rate from last year’s 97.2 percent to cent percent. The Department’s statistics show that 88,207 children belonging to the 5-9 years of age are out of schools. Likewise, another 313,289 children of basic education level are out of schools.
