KATHMANDU, April 21: Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has welcomed the government's move to end syndicate in the transportation sector. Issuing a press statement on Friday, the Chamber stressed on the importance to stop syndicates and cartels in the transportation sector.

The Chamber has further said that the syndicates in the country which imperiled the free market economy two decades ago should stop immediately.

The Chamber has also announced to provide every support possible to the government to end all types of syndicates in transportation and other services, which has not only barred free competition but has also caused the cost of trading and doing business go high. The Chamber has also urged the agitated groups of the transportation sector to withdraw the protest programs they announced recently to defy the government decision to end syndicate.

Government on Tuesday had decided to cancel the registration and renewal of transportation committees as non-government organizations, and had required them to register as companies. The move issued a ban on the syndicates and cartels they were running.

The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI) also announced its support, on Thursday, to the government decision not to renew any transportation committees that are registered as non-government, non-profit organizations at the district administration offices (DAOs) across the country, in an attempt to end the syndicates they were running.
