DCC chief and CDO take guardianship of two students

KHOTANG, April 25: Chief District Officer (CDO) of Khotang and the chief of District Coordination Committee (DCC) have taken the guardianship of two helpless girls of Laphyang, Khotang.  

Chief of DCC Boby Chamling offered to look after Shilimika Rai while CDO Ekdev Adhikari took the guardianship to Anusha Shrestha of Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality-5, Laphyang. Rai is a fifth grader and Shrestha is an eighth grader at Shree Secondary School. CDO Rai and DCC chief Chamling will be paying for their education until they pass high school.

Last year, Rai lost her father while Shrestha doesn't have both of her parents. According to Chamling, he decided to take the guardianship to create an environment for the girls to attain higher education.

CDO Adhikari and DCC chief Chamling handed over uniforms, exercise books, text books, shoes among others to both the students amidst a program organized on the premises of Shree Secondary School. Earlier, member of parliament Bishal Bhattarai, had taken the guardianship of seven-year-old Barsha Tamang of Khotehang Rural Municipality-7, Khotangbazaar. Tamang's father is out of the country and her mother has eloped with someone else.

The school authority has urged financially sound people to take guardianship of children from poor economic background. Ward chief of Diktel Majhuwagadhi Municipality-12, Jalpa also took guardianship of one of the children during the program. Ward chief Rabin Sunuwar decided to take the guardianship of a child whose family cannot afford to pay for his education.
