1st Inter-Province U-16 National Cricket from Thursday

KATHMANDU, April 25: Manmohan Memorial Cricket Center is set to organize the first Manmohan Memorial Inter-province U-16 National Cricket Tournament from Thursday. 

The tournament, which will conclude on May 2, will be played at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. 

Speaking at a press meet organized in the capital on Tuesday, the president of the center Thakur Gaire informed that the preparations for the tournament and the ground have reached in the final stage. More than 1,200 cricket players took part in the selection, he added. 

The center further informed that a total of 16 members will be there in a team which includes 14 players, a head coach and a team manager.

It also said that players will be wearing white jerseys and the matches will be played with a red ball. Each inning will be played of 30 overs.

Gaire said that they are organizing the tournament with an aim to bring the talents hidden in the provinces forward and produce new players from the provinces.  He also urged the government and the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) to develop the physical infrastructure in order for development of cricket in the country. 

Nepal national team head coach Jagat Tamatta said that this will be a good tournament and the center is working properly to organize it. 

He also added that organizing a 30-over tournament was a good platform to create a different type of cricket culture in the country and it will help in producing new and young players who can take part in big tournaments if they perform well. 

A total of seven teams are divided into two groups and the top two teams will advance into the semifinals of the tournament. Provinces 2, 4, 5, 7 are pitted in Group A, while Provinces 1, 3, 6 are in Group B. 

The first match will see Province 3 take on Province 1. The semifinals will be played on May 1. 

The winner of the tournament will take home Rs 500,000, while the runner-up will be rewarded with Rs 250,000. The best player of each category will also be prized with cash.
