CHITWAN, April 28: The upgradation work of Narayanghat-Mugling road section is unlikely to meet even the fourth deadline, according to the project's senior divisional engineer Govind Khanal.

“Some say it can be done while others say it can't be done within the deadline. But considering the current work progress, meeting the deadline is highly unlikely,” said the engineer.

The difficulty in cracking hills, problems in traffic management, narrow bridges, mismanagement and weakness from the contracting side have all contributed to the delay, Khanal observed.

Three different companies are involved in the upgradation of the 33.2-kilometer road from Anptari to Muglin. According to Khanal, almost eighty percent of the works have been completed so far with the deadline just around the corner.

As per the initial contract, the construction work had started in April 2015 and was supposed to finish within two years. However, the deadline has been revised several times. This is the fourth time the deadline has been extended.

As per the current deadline, three companies that are involved in the project are supposed to compete for their works by May 10, May 20 and May 30 respectively.

The initial cost of the project was estimated at Rs 2.89 billion while it now has been adjusted to Rs 3.2 billion.
