Minister inaugurates shortest route to Rasuwagadi

RASUWA, May 20: Defence minister Ishwor Pokhrel inaugurated Mailung-Syafrubesi road, the shortest route connecting Rasuwagadi today. Pokhrel is accompanied Rabindra Adhikari, Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation; and Raghubir Mahaseth, Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transportation along with 24 others. 

The Mailung-Syafrubesi Road Construction Working Committee had initiated construction of 17 kilometer two lane highway on 2072 BS.  Initially the committee had received permission to build seven kilometers single lane. Post earthquake, the committee was shouldered with additional 10 kilometers of construction.

“Initially we had constructed seven kilometers of single lane road,” Major Sanjay KC, chief of the committee said, “Later we were responsible to construct another 10 kilometers of two lane,” he said adding that the construction was completed on time.

In total, the committee has constructed six kilometers of single lane road from Simle to Mailung after the earthquake while the rest is double lane road.

Shortest route

The road is shorter by 25 kilometers against Betrawati-Syafrubesi road which measures at 54 kilometers. The Mailung-Syafrubesi road measures only 29 kilometers. The committee said that unlike the Betrawati road which had ample turns, this road had none. In total, to reach Syafrubesi from Kathmandu through this road, commuters will travel 122 kilometers, against 145 kilometers via Betrawati-Dhunche-Rasuwagadi.

The road was completed at the cost of 70 million rupees.
