Saraswati, Sonam into final

KATHMANDU, Aug 26: Saraswati Rana Magar and Sonam Rokka have progressed to the final of the Fourth Nationwide and First Novice Boxing Tournament on Friday.

Saraswati defeated Dibya Limbu on the basis of technical knockout (TKO) and Sonam of Tribhuvan Army Club B team overcame Som Maya Limbu of Jhapa in the semifinal of women's 57-60 kg event.

Army A's Lalita Maharjan also advanced to the final beating Army B's Gita Kumari Thapa in the women's 46-48 kg event. Army B's Urmila Lama joined Lalita in the final in the same event defeating Dibika Bhujel of Udayapur.

APF's Mala Rai also cemented her place in the final beating Sita Pathak of same departmental team in 48-51 kg event. Army A's Minu Gurung joined Mala in the final defeating Nita Gosai by technical knockout in the same event.

 Similarly, in the 51-54 kg event, APF's Sanju Lama overcame Dibya Gurung of Jhapa by technical knockout to reach the final. In the same event, Army A's Bimala Shrestha defeated Nisha Tamang of Nepal Police on the basis of points.

Army A's Niru  Gurung and APF A's Maya Chaudhary progressed  to the semifinal of women's 54-57 kg event. Binita Thapa Magar and Punam Rawal advanced to the final from 60-64 kg event.       

Likewise, in the senior men's category, Army duo Tej Bahadur Deuwa and Prem Chaudhary progressed  to the  final beating APF duo Ashis Tamang and Bikram Pariyar respectively. Bhanu Bista of Kanchanpur defeated Patan's Saroj Shrestha in the quarterfinal of junior men's 46-49 kg event. In the same event, Naxal A's Dev Tamang, Damak's Dharmendra Pakhim and Alfa's Chandra Bahadur Thapa advanced to the quarterfinal defeating Banke's Sagar Thapa, Chitwan's Dikshanta Shrestha and Central Boxing's Bikesh Basnet respectively.

Likewise, Pradip Ghimire of Meghdut overcame Bosigaun's Samir Maharjan in the men's 52 kg event. Rolpa's Ram Prasad Pun and Naxal's Mingma  Gyalzen defeated Puskar Nath of  Dadeldhura and Bijay Rai of Udayapur respectively in the same event.
