Discussion on proposal of public importance

KATHMANDU, Aug 28: The Legislature-Parliament today held discussion on the proposal of public importance regarding making the land transport safe by lessening road accidents, and loss to life and property.

Discussion was held on the proposal tabled by lawmaker Rabindra Adhikari. Presenting the proposal, Adhikari said that dilapidated road condition, syndicate of transport entrepreneurs, negligence of drivers, old vehicles have increased road accidents, and expressed the view that works should be done in an integrated manner in a new way for resolving the problem.

He stressed that a mechanism comprising experts was necessary for effective implementation of laws and regulation rather than blaming each other.

Supporting the proposal, lawmaker Ganesh Kumar Pahadi and Shivaji Yadav called for effective implementation of rules and regulation related to public transport.

Expressing concern over the rising number of road accidents across the country, the MPs suggested the government to take the issue serious and work towards controlling it. It may noted that more than 50 people died in the road accidents that took place recently in Kavre, Chitwan and Baitedi.

Taking part in the discussion, MPs Aman Lal Modi, Dil Nath Giri, Dr Bansidhar Mishra, Ram Hari Subedi, Ananta Prasad Poudel, Ram Kumar Bhattarai, Nawaraj Sharma, Amber Bahadur Thapa, Geeta Chettri, Yogendra Chaudhary, Kamala Kumari Ghimire, Meena Pun, Asha Koirala, Nisha Kumari Shah and Prem Suwal called upon the serious attention of the government towards minimizing road accidents and resulting losses.

Earlier at the meeting, Speaker Onsari Gharti read a letter received from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers about the latest expansion of the cabinet, and change of portfolios. She also tabled a proposal seeking consent of the house to the changing of names of members in various parliamentary committees. RSS
