Renault launches Duster, Kwid

KATHMANDU, Aug 29 : French automobile brand Renault officially announced its entry in the Nepali market on Monday, launching its two cars -- Duster and Kwid.

Renault has appointed Advanced Automobiles Pvt Ltd as its authorized distributor in Nepal.

Introducing the brand in Nepal, Sumit Sawhney, CEO and Managing Director of Groupe Renault of Indian Subcontinent Operations, claimed that Renault is one of the fastest growing global automotive brands. “Over the last few years, we have built a strong foundation and exponentially grown the Renault brand, entering new and emerging markets. Nepal is a growing market for automobiles and Renault, with its consumer-centric products and services, aims to capture at least 10 percent of market share in the next two years,” Sawhney added.

Similarly, Nikunj Agrawal, managing director of Advanced Automobiles said that Renault carries legacy of innovation and passion in the global automotive industry. “With Renault Kwid, we will offer our customers in Nepal a game-changer compact hatchback which has been designed and developed by Renault's global teams, making it a truly international car. While Duster, with its superior styling and features, will also strongly appeal to the customers,” added Agrawal.

Kwid is a petrol car powered by 799cc three-cylinder engine that generates 54PS power at 5678 rpm and 72Nm of torque at 4386 rpm. According to the company, Kwid is offered at starting price of Rs 1,689,990 and will be available in five color options -- fiery red, ice cool white, moon light silver, outback bronze and planet grey.

Duster, a compact SUV, is available in both petrol and diesel variants. While the petrol variant comes with a 1.6 liter engine which is paired to a five-speed manual gearbox, the diesel variant is powered by a 1.5 liter engine. Renault Duster is available at starting price of Rs 3.53 million in seven color variants -- pearl white, galaxy black, moonlight silver, amazon green, woodland brown, comet grey and cayenne orange.

According to Agrawal, Duster will compete with Hyundai Creta, while Hyundai i10, Maruti Celerio are the competitors of Kwid.
