KATHMANDU, Aug 29: Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday has asked Nepal's embassies and the offices of consulate general around the world as well as other offices to use the word 'Nepali' instead of 'Nepalese' for all official purposes and strictly maintain uniformity in this case.

“In English, the embassies abroad will be stated as Embassy of Nepal in complete form and Nepali Embassy in short. Likewise, the Consulate General of Nepal will be stated Nepali Consulate General in short,” read a statement issued by the ministry on Sunday. “All the documents, statements and letters to be dispatched from the ministry and other departments shall use the wordings accordingly.”

This decision has come within a few days after Minister for Foreign Affairs Prakash Sharan Mahat assumed the office last week.

“We took the decision as it became urgent to maintain uniformity of the word,” said the minister.

Officials said the ministry will also ask other ministries, state bodies and departments to maintain the uniformity.
