KATHMANDU, Aug 30: The Kathmandu District Court on Tuesday remanded notorious gangster Deepak Manange to judicial custody in an abduction case.

A bench of Kathmandu District Court Judge Rishikesh Wagle decided to send Manange to judicial custody after reviewing the available evidence that suggested his involvement in masterminding the kidnapping of a Thamel-based businessman, according to District Court Registrar Dhurba Upreti.

The District Attorney Office had filed a kidnapping case against Manange and his accomplices although the police had charged him of organized crimes after a thorough questioning conducted over a period of 60 days.

“The attorney's office registered a comparatively weaker and different case against Manange and his accomplices, contrary to the findings of the police investigation,” a senior police official said.

However, sources close to District Attorney Office said that police chargesheet was not strong enough to establish Manange's involvement in organized crimes.

The attorney office had registered the case at District Court Kathmandu indicating only two defendants, Manange aka Rajiv Gurung and his accomplice Rajan Kumar Singh, even though the police had included other names of defendants identified as Sushil Manange, Jack Gurung, Sunny Gurung. SSP Bikram Singh Thapa, chief of Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu, said, “We had submitted complete case study with evidences to prove that the notorious gangster Manange was involved in organized crimes.

” A squad of Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu had arrested Manange on the first week of July from Thamel.

Manage and his accomplice were sent to Dilli Bazaar jail.
