KATHMANDU, Sept 12: Health condition of Ganga Maya, the widow of late Nanda Prasad Adhikari, who has been on fast-unto-death since the last 31 days is critical but stable, doctors attending to her said.

“She is serious and anything can happen to her any time,” Dr Manen Prasad Gorkhali, who is overseeing Adhikari's care, said. He also informed that Adhikari was suffering from depression.

Demanding justice for her son, who was killed by Maoists during the insurgency, Adhikari has stopped taking food since the last 31 days.

Adccording to Dr Gorkhali, they have been providing fluids to Adhikari through central line, which is inserted in a large vein in the arm or chest, from which medicines, fluids or TPN are provided over a long period of time.

Dr Bhupendra Basnet, director at the hospital, said that central line inserted on Adhikari has increased the risk of infection.

“Central line has been inserted to provide daily nutritional requirements, but the device raises the risk of infection,” said Basnet.Demanding action against those responsible for the death of her son Krishna Prasad, she had staged hunger strike for 360 days, which ended following a five-point deal with the government, last year. Her son Krishna Prasad was murdered in Chitwan in June 2004 by Maoist insurgents, who accused him of being a police informant.

Adhikari's husband, Nanda Prasad, died on September 22, 2014 in the course of his fast-unto-death. His body is still at the morgue of the central police forensic laboratory at Maharajgunj.
